Make your own Homemade Vanilla Extract with just 2 ingredients: Vanilla Beans and Vodka. Now, this isn’t the time to go cheap. Just say “no” to the $5 Popov brand vodka and invest a few extra dollars in a brand like SKYY vodka (my personal favorite). You also want high quality vanilla beans. High-quality vanilla beans can be very expensive so I like to buy in bulk on Amazon. I pay less than $1 per bean shipped vs $3 in the store.
To create a deep, rich vanilla flavor you don’t want to scrimp on the vanilla beans. Sure you can use a smaller amount of vanilla beans than I recommend, but you will be able to tell in the final product. Of course this isn’t such a bad thing if you love vanilla-flavored vodka. Vanilla Stoli and coke anyone?
There are 2 recipe options, depending on how much homemade vanilla extract you need. The small size makes a great gift for the foodie in your life and the large size lasts forever. All the while the taste continues to build.
- High quality Vanilla Beans
- High quality Vodka
- SMALL BATCH:
- Add 1 Whole Vanilla Beans to 2 oz of Vodka. Store in an airtight container and keep it in a cool, dark place for 6 weeks minimum. The longer is sits, the more depth the extract will have.
- LARGE BATCH (1 Pint)
- Add 10-12 Whole Vanilla Beans to 8 oz of Vodka. Store in an airtight container and keep it in a cool, dark place for 6 weeks minimum. The longer is sits, the more depth the extract will have.
