Slow Cooker Baked Apples

Hello Fall. We’ve missed you.

Last week we brought these Caramel Apple Pie Bites and Peach Crisp to you and now our beloved Slow Cooker Baked Apples recipe is hitting the menu. These babies are juicy, delectable and a crowd pleaser. We grew up eating these baked apples for dessert every holiday season. Anything that goes well with a scoop of vanilla ice cream has to be good, right?

Slow Cooker Baked Apples

This slow cooker baked apples recipe is easily adaptable to suit individual tastes. For those who haven’t seen the light, you can skip adding nuts to their filling. Or the raisins. We prefer our raisins be in the drinkable form (a.k.a wine) so we omit them most of the time.

Another fall favorite, loaded with cinnamon is this delicious cinnamon bread pull aparts.

Ingredients

  • 6 Baking Apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • ¼ cup Brown Sugar
  • ¼ cup Rolled Oats
  • ¼ cup All-purpose Flour
  • ½ tsp Cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp Nutmeg
  • tsp Ground Cloves
  • 4 tbsp Butter (Cold)

Instructions

  • Combine the brown sugar, oats, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves in a medium size bowl.
  • Add the diced butter and gently combine by squishing the butter between your fingers. Small chunks of butter are fine. Set aside.
  • Core the apples using an apple corer or pairing knife. Make sure you don’t cut all the way to the bottom, so the filling doesn’t leak out. The bigger the hole the more filling you can stuff inside.
  • Add 1/2 cup of water to the bottom of the slow cooker, followed by the apples.
  • Stuff each apple to the top with the filling.
  • Let cook for 1.5 – 2 hours on high or 4 hours on low.
  • Half way through, add more filling to each apple if desired.
  • Once the apples are soft to the touch they’re ready to serve.
  • Serve by itself or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

  1. Do the apples sit directly in the water?

  2. Edythe Monroe says:

I would like to make this for work. I wonder if I have a large crockpot, could I make a second layer of apple like maybe 15/20 apples if the lid still fits on? Would that work?

    1. That should work just fine.

  3. I cooked mine today (had to use 5 apples) on low for 4 hours like recipe said and they were applesauce. They were mush. I see in comments where if not as many apples use 30 mins. less but are you sure 4 hours? they were still good but expected firmer apples.

    1. The apples are suppose to be very soft, like an apple pie. I’ll make a note that the cook time is shorter if you prefer a firmer apple. Thanks for the feedback.

  4. Will cooking time vary with less apples? Thank you

    1. Hi Briana – This is a very flexible recipe so I wouldn’t worry too much about adjusting the cooking time. I would imagine it would be about the same with less apples. Maybe 30 minutes less.

  5. David McCune says:

Not seeing where you added the oats. Im assuming it goes in with the flour mix.

    1. Yes! Thanks for pointing that out. I’ll get it updated. Thanks again for the comment!

  6. Can apples be peeled? My family does not like baked apples with the peel on.

    1. Peel away!
